Building age and construction year for every Swiss parcel

roots shows the age of buildings across Switzerland on one map. Every parcel is colored by the construction year of its buildings, from deep red for the oldest to pale cream for the newest, so you can read the age of a neighborhood at a glance. Search an address or use your location, then click a parcel to see its building history from the register.

What the parcel panel shows

Construction years come from the federal building and dwelling register (GWR). Parcels without a recorded year appear in gray.

Two ways to read building age

Color by Year shows each parcel's representative construction year. Color by Oldest uses the oldest building on the parcel, the fastest way to find parcels with an old structure worth renovating or replacing. The Residential type filter narrows the map to single-unit or multi-unit parcels.

Frequently asked questions

When was this building built?

Search the address or click the parcel. The panel opens on the Age tab with the construction year from the federal building register (GWR), plus the oldest, newest and average year when the parcel has several buildings.

What do the colors on the map mean?

Each parcel is colored by construction year in five-year steps, from deep red before 1900 to pale cream for 2020 and later. Parcels with no recorded construction year are gray.

What is the difference between Year and Oldest?

Year colors a parcel by its representative construction year. Oldest colors it by the oldest building on the parcel, which quickly surfaces parcels that still hold an old structure.
